Ingvar, the Swedish Tomten
2021 -2022
As a new direction, I decided to write a story and illustrate it for my first children's book.
Our granddaughter had turned 3 years old.
This was her birthday present. I'm currently painting pictures in both watercolour and acrylic for the sequel, as a present for her 7th or 8th birthday.

After publication, the ideas kept coming to me. I went in a slightly, but more laborious direction, as I took two artistic welding courses with Frank Holte, who worked at Off The Wall and recently retired from the Stratford Festival. Ingvar now resides at our front entrance to greet visitors. He is in a 36" X 48" steel carving. There are photos of him in this website.
Meet some of the characters for this storybook:
Ingvar and his friends Uggla, the little owl, Carly, the cardinal, and Vittbjörn, the polar bear.

At Christmas we have 3 inflated Christmas elves/gnomes, as our decorations in front of
the house. In Sweden, the tradition at Christmas includes gifts, being delivered by the Christmas elf (Jultomten) to the children of the family, before they go to bed on Christmas Eve.
There is a very old tradition (not believed completely anymore) that each farm had a "tomten", who looked after the farm animals and even kept an eye on the family.
These 2+ foot tall little beings have the use of magic, so they are often invisible.
Meet Ingvar's Dad: Ingemar.
He, along with Bosse, Ingvar's Granddad,
will be featured in the upcoming second book
about the Tomtarna.
